Our engineering team is looking for a Technical Lead Full Stack Engineer. This role is responsible for leading a team of software engineers to design, build, and maintain technical architecture. This includes architecting LLM-driven workflows, implementing safety and guardrail systems, developing scalable backend and frontend components, and ensuring high engineering standards. The Tech Lead conducts code reviews, manages project execution, and partners closely with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, production-ready features.
This is a hybrid position based in NYC.
What You’ll Do
Leadership and Team Management
- Lead and mentor engineers, providing coaching, guidance, and technical support.
- Foster a collaborative and transparent team culture that encourages learning and knowledge sharing.
- Delegate tasks based on skills and project needs, ensuring effective execution.
- Communicate clearly across the team and cross-functional stakeholders.
Technical Guidance
- Serve as the primary architect for LLM and agentic system components, including orchestration pipelines, function-calling, evaluation systems, and safety layers.
- Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to engineering standards and best practices.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and drive solutions to complex engineering challenges.
- Oversee system maintenance, updates, and monitoring to ensure system health and reliability.
AI Platform Leadership
- Design scalable and maintainable AI system architectures incorporating LLMs, vector databases, and tool-calling workflows.
- Ensure responsible AI practices, including transparency, security, HIPAA compliance, and safe model behavior.
- Stay current on industry trends and evaluate emerging technologies for potential adoption.
Project Management & Collaboration
- Oversee project planning, execution, and delivery for full-stack and AI-related initiatives.
- Collaborate with product management, design, clinical, and data teams to define requirements.
- Communicate project risks, blockers, and needs proactively to stakeholders.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years of professional software development experience.
- 2+ years working with LLMs, orchestration frameworks, vector stores, or agentic systems.
- Experience designing distributed systems and building production-grade web services.
- Proficiency in backend (Node.js/Python), frontend frameworks, and cloud infrastructure.
- Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives.

Compensation
At Talkspace, we believe that pay transparency during the interview process is a critical part of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our salary bands are based on internal and external compensation benchmarks, which we regularly evaluate to ensure we pay competitively.
The base salary range for this role is between $160,000 and $200,000. Within the salary bands, leveling corresponds to each candidate’s relevant experience, skills as assessed during the interview process, education, and applicable certifications.
