Minute Media is seeking an Associate Legal Counsel to join the Minute Media Legal Department. This position will report to the Senior Vice President, Legal & Business Affairs and work closely with other members of the legal and commercial teams on agreements and other legal transactional matters for Sports Illustrated, The Players’ Tribune and other Minute Media brands (e.g., Mental Floss, FanSided, 90min and STN Video) from time to time.

The ideal candidate will be strong in the area of contract drafting and negotiation with experience in the areas of content/media, events, sponsorships and advertising, talent, consultants/freelancers and other commercial legal functions within a small in-house legal team. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who has strong legal transactional experience, organizational skills and attention to detail and is capable of navigating challenging legal issues across various business units.


  • Draft, review and redline various media and entertainment related commercial agreements including, without limitation, custom content sponsorship agreements, event sponsorship agreements, advertising agreements (e.g., insertion orders), talent services agreements, independent contractor agreements, content licensing agreements, non-disclosure agreements, SaaS and other vendor agreements and production-related agreements
  • Facilitate a range of other legal transaction matters customary for an in-house legal environment department including daily review of matters with supervisor, legal research and writing, preparation of legal presentations and other legal memoranda and proficient use of organizational workflow tools for the tracking and completion of assignments
  • Liaise frequently with the Legal, Sales, Integrated Marketing, Production Operations, Athlete Partnerships and Finance departments and other MM business teams on agreements, deal negotiations and other matters; consult with outside counsel on occasion
  • Actively prepare for, and participate in, Legal team and cross-departmental meetings on a regular basis to discuss updates and workflow improvements
  • Counsel, facilitate and support company personnel on business matters from time to time as needed

The expected salary range for this position is between $100k and $135k. Actual pay will be determined based on skills, experience, and location. [If eligible for bonus/commission] This position is also eligible for performance-based compensation.   • 2-3 years of hands-on legal transactional experience in-house and/or at a reputable law firm (i.e., professional work, law school internships, etc.)
  • Strong contract drafting, review, issue spotting and other legal transactional skills and experience (professional and academic)
  • Strong interpersonal skills working with others working in a collaborative and fast-paced environment
  • Hard worker with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills including the ability to convey complex legal principles clearly and concisely
  • Able to work independently, prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks with sensitive deadlines in a quickly-changing environment
  • Working knowledge of the media/content publishing, sponsorships and sports industries - a strong advantage
  • Flexibility and willingness to work on various legal matters facing a media company
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • J.D.; active license to practice in New York or other U.S. state; member of state bar in good standing
